My Freelance Copywriting Journey (Part Two)

Continue last time’s topic of finding my copywriting niche: after I discovered “interpretive writing”, I feel more sure of which direction to pursue my career. However, another problem came up (ugh, I know!) There aren’t many opportunities for interpretive writing (if you look up online, there is barely any job posting for it). Usually, we have to establish relationships and credibility with agencies that handle the exhibitions, and then we might have a chance. While this is still the main goal, I started thinking of a niche I can start now.

After many discussions and self-reflections, I decided to help Etsy artists with their writings. Even though there are many platforms online, Etsy has a large body of artists selling crafts and all kinds of handmade items. Since I am also a craft lover, it is easier to stand in potential buyers’ shoes to look at the items on sale. From what I have learned, writing item descriptions should be clear and concise. They show people not only the basic information but also what makes the items stand out. We need to show how the products can solve the customers’ needs. And of course, to make the business more visible, adding keywords makes it SEO-friendly.

I’m unsure how many people need this service, as smaller businesses usually write copies themselves. But for businesses that are slightly bigger or expanding, there might be a need. Hopefully, with this niche, more opportunities will come, and I am very excited about that.
