Why do handmade artists and creators need copywriters?

Following the article “Why do you need copywriters”, I feel compelled to write about why my specific niche: handmade artists and creators, also needs copywriters.

Most of the art focuses on visuals, so often, having beautiful photos of the works is the artists' priority. I agree, yet, I believe words can help an artwork stand out more than we can imagine.

Besides the broad reasons why hiring copywriters is beneficial, i.e. make the brand more visible, help the clients reflect more thoroughly on their goals, etc. There is another advantage for artists to hire copywriters.

But how can words compete with colorful images and intriguing graphics? And why do people need copywriters when they can attract traffic just by posting amazing images of their artwork? To these, I want to say that having words that complement the art makes a world of differences to the audience. A piece of art with information or background is not just visually appealing, but an inspiration and an enlightening viewing experience.

Let's use visiting a museum as an example. We feel impressed when we visit a museum, but if we don’t understand the creative process and the meaning behind the artworks, all we gain after visiting is surface impressions. That is why if we do more homework before going to an exhibit, we feel more touched and in awe as we have another level of understanding and an extra layer of connection with the artists.

Handmade craft is the same. Behind every craft is the love and effort of the artists. What makes each piece stand apart is its inspiration and working process. By adding nice copies to your work, you put in more personality that makes your work stand out like no others.
