Arts & Crafts = My Writing Journey
I always loved arts & crafts. There’s magic in making something with your hands and seeing it come to life. When I discovered there was such a class making adorable little clay food near me, I enrolled immediately.
Fast forward in time, I already took the class four times and enjoyed challenging myself. I’m in awe as I dive deeper into this world. I didn’t know there are so many different types of clays and paints; I didn’t know we need to add some white paint into the clay or else it becomes transparent when dries; I didn’t know we need to apply extra pressure on the clay to imitate texture such as fruit skin, as the clay bounces back after drying and eats away the texture. It’s like going down an arts & crafts rabbit hole! A seemly simple task hides many skills and tricks that several hours can never master.
Of course, this is the ultimate task of patience. The making of rosemary leaves was particularly challenging. For some reason, I couldn’t get the color right, and the leaves look like veggies being left too long in the pot, neither refreshing nor appetizing. Then, I had to cut off tiny pieces and press them gently to form a long shape. My rosemary leaves became bigger each time (like a regular leaf)! It was so hard!
Going through this art project is like going through my writing journey now. I enjoy writing, and that is why I decided to become a writer. Once I start diving into the world, I find there are so many intricate details and so many different styles of writing. It’s a never-ending learning process that amazes me daily. Then I meet roadblocks, the difficulties of finding writing jobs, the challenge of turning my ideas into words, the not-so-ideal clients, the rejections from agencies, etc. Often, I wonder whether this is the right way or whether my effort is worth it…
But I am determined to fulfill my dream this time as a copywriter! I want to have a sustainable copywriting business and also work on my books on the side. To achieve these, I need to foster a positive outlook and learn from others constantly. Being flexible in trying different methods is important too! Wish we all have the courage and the strength to fulfill our dreams!
